Dear Parents,
Welcome to Division 10! Your child has been placed in the grade 2 class. We are located in room 505. I am Mrs. van Ryswyk. I believe that it is important to have a good working relationship between students, parents, and teacher. This relationship is one of the most significant things when it comes to providing your child with the best education. Please feel free to stop by after school to see your child’s work or to ask any questions you may have. I am so excited to be on this learning journey with your child! I am sure there will be some growing pains felt by not only the students but ME, as well. There are a few housekeeping items I need to address.
In the morning, there are many important announcements and activities. In order to ensure your child has a good start to the day, please try to have your child at school on time. The first bell rings at 8:35. I realize that there will occasionally be a reason for a student to be late and they can check in at the office, through the front doors, if they arrive after 8:40.
All students are expected to have a large Ziploc bag for their library books. In the past, I have found this helpful to minimize damage to library books.
Students will have weekly spelling words. The work given to your child is based on their ability level at this time. Some children’s work may look different due to the varying reading levels. Most children will bring home words in their planner this week; however, some children will start to bring home words next week. This allows us time to work with the different groups.
For those parents who do not accompany your child to school daily, there is an expectation for students to have their planners signed and at school every day! In the planner is any home study for the evening. The planner is a wonderful way to communicate when your child may have a doctor/ dentist appointment or why they are away. If your child is absent, it is up to the student and their parent to catch up on any missed work. I rarely assign homework on the weekends, as this is a wonderful time for families to enjoy their time together.
Students are expected to have a pair of clean inside running shoes. We try to have gym daily and proper footwear helps to keep the children safe; as well as, keeping our class carpets clean.
Students are encouraged to make healthy life choices. This includes bringing healthy snacks and lunches; as well as, walking/ wheeling to school daily. I also encourage students to bring a water bottle. It is so important for students to drink enough water and our room gets quite warm.
This year I am trying to communicate without a paper trail, so I am learning to create a class website. I will do my best to up date it weekly. The website will have important dates, newsletters, and home study assignments. The web address is http://mrsvanryswyk.weebly.com.
I am looking forward to discovering more about your child and assisting them with their learning; as well as, learning along with them. I hope this year is a positive learning experience for your child. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to contact me.
